Last night I attended the orientation at LCB!! YAY!
Before arrival, because I was nervous, I turned the wrong way, had to turn around..then had to assure myself and call the college to make sure I was going the right way. I didn't feel bad to get there a minute late (let it be the last time) because there was a whole other line that arrived after me.
To start: They took our picture, then strung us through the entrance directly into a waiting line to be 'fitted' for our uniforms. I stood in line next to a girl named Kristin and a guy named Nick. On the beginning of the long steel table there were two hats..Luckily the little one fit me, along with every other girl apparently (I could tell by the makeup line along the inside rim).
Chef's pants were next; lined up in size order with the size letter marked on the upper hip area. We all cautiously grabbed the next smaller size, held them up to us, contemplated a moment and marked down the bigger size on our sheet. Chef's coats were then tossed to us by a guy who predicted that Kristin, in front of me, was a XS. (which she was) My arms were too long for the XS, so I got a Small. Then I chatted for a moment with my Admissions Rep who commented on my smile and directed me into the hallway for some din-din. Two large trays of sandwiches were almost empty, so I quick grabbed a turkey sandwich, which what I think was american cheese on it and a candied onion chutney that made for a very interesting combo..but delicious in the end. There was also some kind of filled puffed pasty dessert which tasted like it was filled with dates or raisins or both..and apples. Very good. There was also a penne pesto salad with diced soft cheese (might've been feta) that I grabbed too, but ended up using the toothpick for the salad as a spoon with the same effect due to lack of utensils. Num!
We then all piled into another kitchen, (about 50 of us) there were parents and significant others of some, but not all of the students were there because we chose from 2 oreintation days. The President spoke for a while, some student council folks, and a few others. They commented that it was the quietest group ever! (probably because everyone was daydreaming about the first day of class, like I was) Then we were sent to the computer rooms to sign onto out e-mail portal, not too many difficulties there, but with me and one other. Instead of my name.lastname, they had me as n.lastname(random numbers)@..so after tyring to log on 5 or 6 times, I finally asked for help. Yes, I'm stubborn like that sometimes..
After that, we went to go pick up our bags with our uniforms which lined the hallway outside the breakroom and our first big and beautiful book for class that we each initialed proudly for!!After that, it was back down to the front desk to check status of immunizations, then to Financial Aid. Looks like a little something changed for the Subsidized loan, in a GOOD way. Hey, every little bit helps, right?!?! After that, right on time, we were free to go. The first 2 hours I spent at the school, besides my first interview, which turned out to be almost three..
:-) There will be many more hours where that came from!!
I paged gleefully through my new cooking bible for a bit when I got home and got a little more excited..like I'm not already ecstatic about it!
2 1/2 more weeks to go...
