500 words or less..

EUREKA!

I just got a call from my admissions representative informing me that I just won money from a grant I applied for!! 600 bucks to be exact! YAY, I am so excited!

This was a Grant offered directly through the school and I believe the total amount they were giving away was 2000 dollars?? (I could be wrong) It was to fill out the grant application, get a letter of reccomendation from a former teacher, or other..and to write an essay describing how "going to school will help you to accomplish your dream of..", which I admit, didn't seem that challenging until I got to writing it.

I have to thank my friend Mark, (an English Major), for proofreading my first draft and steering my thoughts so much by his feedback that I ended up completely re-writing it. To my former boss Mabel, who was nice enough to sign a reccomendation letter for me that I needed to hand in with this essay. These two people I met at the company I was laid off from earlier this year in May..and I'm still SAD about getting laid off, but glad to have had the chance to know and work with them. :-D

I remember that this essay was due on December 8th, and I remember that morning VERY well. I got the grant application delivered that same morning at the school because I was busy the night before and I was relying on my friends printer to have enough ink. Turns out the next morning, when I went to print, it didn't have enough ink...so I had to wait for the school library to open at 8am. I start work at 8am by the way. Fortunately, my current boss understood my dilemma..but I still felt silly for having to call in late because of it.

I knew somehow that there was a reason that I was pushing so hard to meet that noon deadline for the 8th. A 600 dollar reason. Good enough for me!
