Where do I begin without dragging out my first day too long??
I woke up at 4:50am, Jonathan was up at 5:15, we were out the door by 6. We got to the daycare at 6:15, and I took 494 to college which is pretty good at that time of the morning to go between 70-75 on. Yes! I got there early, re-situated my bookbag in the car, then resituated my uniform in the bathroom. My hair is harder to manage than I ever imagined, but now that I know that not everyone wears their hair in a pony, it made me feel better. I'll let my hair dry normally tomorrow and just blow-dry my bangs out.
Anyways, first class: Intro to Culinary with Chef Paul and assistant Chef Lou was great. There was a lot of hustle and bustle when we would take breaks to pick up some books here and pick up the rest of our uniforms there...but we made it. Introductions were fun. 95% boys in my class. 5% are originally from Minnesota. Someone moved from Alaska to go to this school. Wild. So, during the introduction, everyone gave a favorite food, which my answer was that I have a favorite "food of the day", because a favorite food is an unfair question. Today my favorite food was Mexican Mole. Like the kind I made with my friends Raul and Elle on Saturday. It took 4 hours. (Well worth it BTW) My answer was appreciated more than saying PIZZA or Mashed potatoes and gravy. Where do they find these future chefs anyways??
We also found out on the first day about all the homework we would have for the next 3 weeks. I couldn't decide if this was good or bad at the time, but wrote it down anyways. It seems to be a lot, but I guess it has to be if I'm only here for 15 months!
After that, we had a presentation to go to in the Library that ran slightly into our lunch..well..more than slightly.. I ended up having six minutes to eat what I brought, which was fine..if they would've had utensils available. I asked one of the student council members (with the blue Cravats) to help a sista out, his name was Isaiah. I think he sensed a bit of desperation in my voice as I held my steaming hot food in an old cottage chesse container in front of me, because he dashed off and dashed back within a minute. I am going to treasure that plastic fork forever.
As a result of a rapid consumption of 'brain food', I was 1 minute late to my next class. English. I know 2 english majors very well, and now I appreciate them more than I did before (if possible) And I thought to myself, why didn't I major in this??
It helped that our teacher, Elizabeth, is outstanding and put it all into perspective for those who were listening. (I'm certain my writing will get better in the next few weeks.)
My only assingment for the night was from English class : How does the following make you FEEL? (in 2 paragraphs) :
To love someone deeply gives you strength, to be loved by someone deeply gives you courage.
-Leo Tzu
What would you write?
Nitey-nite.
